When a website is not enough.

A marketing site informs. A platform does work. The day your business needs people to log in, data to change on its own, listings to manage, or events to keep current, you have crossed from a site into software. That is a different build, and most local shops get told it is out of reach or sold another subscription. It is neither one here. You own the whole thing, with no monthly platform rent.

WEU is a member network with a gated portal, not a brochure. Members sign in with Google, manage their own business listing, and show up in a live directory the public can search. Under the hood it runs on Cloudflare Workers, a D1 database, and R2 storage, built straight through the terminal on the Worker path. Login, roles, a member portal, and a database-driven directory, all owned outright. That is the kind of build this page is about.

Before Scroll Theory, I ran a transportation company called Swoop. It rode on Autofleet, a dispatch platform that billed us $5,000 every month. That is $60,000 a year to book rides, route drivers, and take payments. When Swoop closed, the software went with it and we had nothing to show for the spend.

So I rebuilt it. A working version was taking real bookings in three days, and the whole system was worked out inside of two weeks. The gap between those two numbers is the part nobody demos: refunds, no-shows, a driver cancelling at 6am, and a cash ledger that still balances every night. It runs on Cloudflare for about five dollars a month. Same jobs, none of the rent, and this time we own it.

Custom-coded is the part of the pitch that worries people. If there is no page builder, does every price change mean calling you? No. Publisher is the editor behind the sites I build, and it is the biggest thing I have shipped. Your words, your photos, your hours, in plain boxes labeled for what they are on the page.

It is deliberately not a drag-and-drop builder. You cannot pull a section apart or knock your phone number under the footer on phones, because those are the changes that quietly break a site. Those stay on my side of the line and cost you nothing to ask for. Everything on your side is safe to touch.

The stack, and what I am comfortable building.

I build on Cloudflare end to end: Workers for the logic, D1 for the database, KV for fast config, R2 for files. There are corners of this world I have not touched yet, and I will tell you when something is new to me. But platforms at the level of Woosh Rides, WEU, DeFlock, and Scroll Theory Forms are squarely in what I can build and stand behind.
